About Us

30 years of changing lives

Our UAE coaching is rooted in Threat Recalibration Therapy™ (TRT™) and the Human Stability Framework, developed by the Institute of Applied Psychophysiology (IOAP) since 1996. Practical, structured work with a qualified practitioner beside you.

Our Story

Born from personal recovery

Charles Linden developed the Linden Method after suffering severe anxiety disorder himself for over a decade. After developing a practical way of working with learned threat responses, he dedicated his life to sharing that knowledge with the world.

Over three decades, the Institute reports more than 700,000 programme cases worldwide, across panic, agoraphobia, OCD, health anxiety, generalised anxiety, phobias and more. Individual suitability and outcomes vary.

Our UAE coaching service brings this approach to life through personal, one-to-one sessions with trained recovery coaches — delivered via Zoom, phone, or FaceTime, wherever you are in the emirates.

The Discovery in 1996

A breakthrough that changed everything

For over 30 years, Charles Linden suffered from severe, life-limiting anxiety, panic attacks, OCD, and phobias. After exhausting conventional medical routes — medications, cognitive therapies, and psychiatric interventions — he was told his condition was incurable.

Refusing to accept a life of management rather than recovery, Charles began to systematically deconstruct the neurological mechanics of fear. In 1996, he made a breakthrough discovery: anxiety is not a mental illness, but a systemic neurological response. The subconscious mind — the brain's threat centre — had become stuck in an "on" position, constantly scanning for danger.

Charles realised that you cannot reason with the subconscious mind using conscious thought (CBT) or simply override it. His approach focused on to provide the brain with specific environmental inputs that commanded the subconscious mind to step down.

"We didn't have to invent a therapy. We discovered how fear actually turns off and reverse engineered a way to ensure that it happens."

— Charles Linden

Building The Institute

From personal recovery to global authority

Following his recovery, Charles documented his exact methodology. This became the foundation for Threat Recalibration Therapy™ (TRT™) and The Linden Method. Over the next 30 years, he built The Charles Linden Institute into what is now the Institute of Applied Psychophysiology.

The Institute reports 700,000+ programme cases across many countries. The Institute now encompasses residential retreats, clinical training programmes, and widespread educational resources.

A Theory That Arrived Before the Science

The science caught up. Charles had already proved it.

What Charles discovered experientially in 1996 — that anxiety resolves when the brain's threat-prediction inputs are systematically withdrawn — is precisely what modern neuroscience now describes as predictive-processing and extinction learning. He did not theorise from academic literature. He worked it out from lived experience, documented it, and delivered recoveries at scale before the neuroscientific framework existed to explain why it worked.

That framework now exists. Charles has formalised his decades of observational and applied work into The Linden Model of Fear Deactivation: A Neurobiological Theory of Anxiety Recovery — a model describing how learned fear responses can settle. The model aligns with evolutionary neuroscience, extinction learning research, and contemporary predictive-processing theory,.

The Institute publishes its research and programme data openly, so you can read it and decide for yourself.

"We didn't have to invent a therapy. We discovered how fear actually turns off — then built a precise, repeatable method to ensure it happens."

The Method

What is LAR Coaching?

Not therapy. Not management.

Unlike counselling, CBT, or medication — which manage anxiety symptoms — the LAR method addresses the root cause, guiding the brain back to its natural, anxiety-free state.

We always look forward

We never analyse the past, open old wounds, or ask you to revisit painful experiences. Every session provides positive, simple guidance — always moving forward, toward the best version of yourself.

Evidence-based recovery

Built on decades of applied work by the Institute of Applied Psychophysiology, which reports 700,000+ programme cases. Outcomes vary from person to person.

Personalised one-to-one coaching

Each session is tailored to you — your anxiety type, your lifestyle, your pace of recovery. Your coach works with you personally, not from a script.

Flexible worldwide access

Online sessions let you access recovery coaching from home, anywhere in the UAE. Ask the team about current practitioner availability and which session format is appropriate for you.

No endless talking or searching

Other therapies can leave you feeling like you need to find a reason for your anxiety before you can recover. With LAR Coaching, you don't — recovery begins immediately.

Why LAR is Different

Different approaches, different jobs

Counselling

Requires lengthy exploration of the past. Helpful for many people.

CBT

Teaches coping strategies — widely used and valuable.

Medication

Managed by your doctor. Never change it without medical advice.

Online therapy

Broad therapy support — not specialised anxiety recovery. Broad, general support.

LAR Coaching

TRT™-based, forward-focused, practical work with a qualified practitioner. Not a replacement for medical care.
